First Love

She was 16 and he was 18. They came from the same school but it was through sheer coincidence that created their first meeting. The boy was sleeping in class when his partner asked him to skip school to join the others at a friend's house. Initially he didn't wanted to leave but eventually did. The girl was already at the friend's house. That was how they first met.

They chatted often online on the IRC and eventually went out together for the very first time one afternoon after school. He was a rowdy bad-boy gangster on the mend while she was a typical playful down to earth girl. Somehow they just seem to click and went on to become a couple.

Almost instantly, they became a celebrity couple in their own circle of friends and acquaintances. It was due to the fact that they were an inseparable in the eyes of many. They were always together, doing things together and having lots of adventure. The numerous love-getys(neo print cards) they took fill up many people's personal websites.

Every month right from the first, they would celebrate their monthly anniversaries and they would never fail to give each other little gifts or surprises. They were the envy of many others.

He was strict with her while she was able to tame the devil in him. They'd meet everyday, chat every night and have breakfast nearly every morning before school. Many times over breakfast, they could simple look at each other in the eyes and have the same thoughts that cross their minds - skip sch. "Your place or mine?" They would both ask each other at the same time. They developed a telepathy understanding with each other overtime and could easily read each other's mind sometimes.

On her birthday, he played a 'cold joke' on her by insisting she meet him at one of suntec city's escalator. She was puzzled as to why couldn't they meet and go there together and why must it be that particular escalator when there were so many of them in the mall. Eventually when she saw him, she got so embarassed that she started blushing. There he was, with his first bouquet of flowers for her. He gave it to her and planted a kiss on her cheeks. They grew red instantly as curious passer-bys stared.

Then he took her downstairs where he bought her a cake and went up to the balcony rooftop of the mall. He lit the candles and sang her her birthday song and gave her her birthday gift. In return, she gave him a bottle of David Doff perfume as a monthly anniversary gift. They ate the cake there much to the amusement of some 'unlucky' passerbys.

In return on his birthday, she spent the night at his place as usual during the weekend. And as usual, he went for his soccer game the next morning, leaving her to continue her sleep. It was strange that day though, she kept asking him what time he'd be coming back and seem to want the exact time. When he got home, he smelt something nice coming from his house while at the doorstep. She had insisted he knock the door instead of opening it with his keys.

He realized why soon after. Right on the dinning table was a set of perfectly prepared western meal - grilled chicken. It smelt so good and look so lovely, not to mention how hungry he was after the game. He melt instantly and couldn't believe his eyes.

Throughout the 11 months leading up to their 1 year anniversary, they'd spent countless times, did countless things, shared countless joys and sorrows and weathered countless storms together. They learnt cooking together, completed a 1000pieces jigsaw within 2 days, spent over 1k shopping until their hands were full, studied together, spared each other on billiards often, and set many goals and ambitions for them.

Although quarrels and bad times weren't spared, there were often more good times than bad ones. They loved each other dearly. The silver ring on his 4th finger meant so much to him that everytime he scored a goal during a soccer game, he would kiss the ring. Whenever she said she's hungry he'd pop up at her place with whatever she craved for.

They saved and strived hard and eventually had enough to book for their cruise to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. They took 2 days off from school without permission just to celebrate the occassion. In the days leading up to the cruise, they were so excited and even went shopping to shop for new clothes and stuffs to wear and bring onto the ship.

The 3 days he spent with her on the ship were one of the most beautiful days of his life. Waking up next to someone he loved so dearly and seemily having the entire ship to them was all too real for him to believe. For the first time in his life, he felt whole and felt like they were an old couple, not a 18 and 16 year old. There were alot of fond memories on the ship such as playing bacarat in the casino, drinking wine together, having breakfast while watching the sunrise, exploring the ship and others. On the final day the ship sailed by to habour front, neither of them could bear to alight the ship.

Who were to know that 3months later tradegy would struck.

She'd never liked him playing soccer and they'd always quarrelled over it. One afternoon, they were both at his place when he told her he'd be going off to school to do some crafts work. She was to stay at his place and wait for him. She went to school to look for him but found him on the soccer court instead. She got so furious that she gave him a tongue lashing in front of the coffeeshop for lying over such a trival thing and stormed off in a cab.

They had a cold war and eventually broked off. She couldn't bring herself to forgive him for lying time and time again over trival small matters.

Weeks passed. They soon realized they missed and yearned for each other's company. Things had also slimmered down by then. They had a peaceful meet up. He brought her to the lake at 'xiao guilin' where they had a heart to heart talk. The moment they met, their eyes craved the affection they've been missing for those weeks. She went soft but was still not quite willing to give him the second chance he asked for. She asked for more time instead. They parted ways in a peaceful and much happier way this time round.

A week or so passed and she'd finally agreed to forgive him and patched things up. He was overjoyed and she came over to his place as usual. He was slacking on the bed when she screamed at him to come over. "How do u explain this?!" She asked in a very furious tone. He looked at the computer screen and was horrified to see the chat log of the conversation he had with this girl.

It happened that one day during that week, he'd gone out with a girl to catch a show. The worst part was that in the cinema, he tried to hold her hands. They had chatted over this on the IRC and it was all recorded in the chat log. No matter how u hide a lie, heaven has a way to reveal it - he learnt this painful but never to be forgotten lesson.

She demanded a break-up and during that period of time, she got to know a colleague who rides a bike. He'd never met him before but have never had a good impression of him. It happened that on the night she demanded a break-up after finding out about the dreadful chat log, things got so heated that it ended terribly.

First, he was reluctant to let her go and kept holding on to her so tightly that her arms got bruised 2 weeks after that night. He lost his temper and banged his fist on the wall so hard that the clock fell and hit her shoulder. He cried and begged her to stay. She refused and the whole thing got so big that neighbours called the police, his uncle and good friend rushed over to try and calm things down. It was nearly 4am midnight. Eventually she left on the bike of the guy. That was also the day his harted for bikes reached the boiling point.

Thereafter, for 7 months he lived like a gay. He distanced himself from girls and went straight home after school everyday. He kept to himself and cried himself to sleep sometimes at night. He learnt the painful but valuable lesson of never to lie, especially to a loved one. It was more than 7 months later before he eventually opened up slowly. His last gift to her was a book which he wrote about the entire love chapters in their relationship. He became honest and straight forward, learning many valuable lessons as well although it was all too late.

5 Years later, they've both grown up and have their own life. One night, he asked himself....."among all his ex-gfs which one does he loved the most and which one left the most memories"? His answer was her. 5 Years later he wondered about all the 'what could have been' and 'ifs'. After all these years, she was still the only one who could tame and influence him greatly. 5 Years later he realized that she may be his 2nd gf but she was his first love and like the saying goes, first loves are all special in some way.
