Fallen down fallen down
London bridge has fallen down
The reds brought it down!
I wanted to post this entry right after the final whistle but the over dose of euphoria in my body and the fact that I was totally 'wasted' after the game made it impossible. Few would understand the magnitude of the game resulting in immerse passion and crazed actions throughout the red mist yesterday that was East of Anfield, also known as Harry's bar at Chijmes. It was my second time watching a big game there and I would like to think I've clearly found my lucky place to watch big games outside with other fans.
Yesterday's game was a big one for alot of reasons. For 4 years 6 months and 8 days, no team have ever beaten Chelsea at their home ground. It was a top of the table game and there's alot more at stake besides bragging rights, points, and pride.
Jeri and I had arranged an outing for the forummers to watch this game and in order to get the best possible seats we were at the bar as early as 6pm, more than 3 hours before the game. And by 9pm which is 30 minutes before the kick off, the near empty bar had transformed into a sea of red mist. Songs and chats filled the air, people came in their dress code for the night - red liverpool jerseys old and new, liverpool polo t-shirts, sweaters, caps, anything that is red and has the liverbird on it is deemed appropriate. And then a female Man U fan came in with her red Man U jersey to absolute boos, mockings and taunts from the crowd - friendly ones though.
For 90 fucking minutes, strangers were going to become friends, enemies were going to be united and any form of unhappiness is going to vanish into thin air. The mission was simple - to turn down stamford bridge and to roar the reds to victory.
As usual, the official anthem "You Will Never Walk Alone" was belted out in full voice that could have blew the roof off. Everyone had their arms around the nearest person they could reach as we sang the anthem feeling as sense of pride and brotherhood gushing through our blood.
Then the game started and after 10 minutes, Alonso scored as the roof immediately went off. It was a miracle that our table supporting bottles and glasses of beers and drinks managed to stay intact amid the wild celebrations. The next 80 minutes saw the usual chants and songs belted out, fingers and fists raised at the screen whenever a bad decision came from the referee, claps whenever Liverpool made a good move and abuse like "fuck off" being shouted from all parts of the place. And when the final whistle came, everyone went bonkers, and before I knew it I found myself up on my feets dancing, jumping and hugging everyone that I could reach. We had done the impossible, we had written history and we have beaten Chelsea, one of our main rivals at their home ground where no team had managed to for 4 fucking long years!
I thought my behaviour was crazed enough but I was wrong. Jeri totally outdone me as did many others including a guy who looked like he's in his early 40s jumping totally non stop like a Duracell Rabbit waving his big Liverpool flag. As most of the crowd exited the bar, a number of us stayed back to celebrate and the most memorable thing worth noting was when everyone stood up some 40 minutes after game had ended, arms in arms, forming a huge circle and singing You Will Never Walk Alone with pride and joy. I believe there is going to be a video or clip made from occassions like this as I saw a professional camera/video guy filming the Liverpool fans the whole night.
Overall, last night had surpassed the nigh we beat Man U and it was a surprise considering how bitter the rivarly is between Liverpool and Man U. Nevertheless I couldn't be bothered as long as we are kicking the asses of these shitheads. Long may these memorable nights continue! But there was downside to it all - I had made the mistake of not checking my camera before bringing it out and the battery was totally flat!
An hour after the game, people were still jumping up and down!!
It seems like a wierd combination. One is an intelligent girl, successful in everything she's ever done, loves the finer side of life. Another is a hyper and fun-loving girl, although blur, clumsy and almost always late all the time, never fails to brighten up someone's day. And the last one is a sentimental alpha male, full of himself almost all the time. Somehow this combination did click - more than 5 years ago. Back then, we were all in the same polytechnic and used to hang out almost every weekend at an extinct place call sparks amongst others. Those days, it will never happen again, even if the place suddenly came back to life. The years just can't be rolled back all over again and honestly I don't think any of us can see ourselves spending fun-filled and carefree nights out. Those were the days, the days of being young with our entire lives ahead of us. Memories I will bring to my grave.
Then the time came and we graduated and went on to greener pastures as what everyone would do. Meet ups started to depreciate especially after Jean went to further her studies in Perth. But we still managed to keep in touch via msn, unfortunately the same couldn't be said about Von who always have a problem managing her little time and endless tasks. Time passes and Jean became one of the very few who could claim to know me quite well. The last time we met it was over a year ago when we went to party at the now shut-down Ministry of sound. I still can't believe the damn place has closed its doors for good! It holds so much memories for me, the nights I wasted my soul and life there. And so more than a year later we finally found time to meet up. Instead of the usual clubbing and chilling places, Jean came up with the idea of playing games, away from the hustle and bustle of the city nightlife. We settled for Holland Village where there's a Settlers' outlet but also other hangouts like cafe, coffee clubs and bars which will provide us with some aftermath options.
Like the good old days, all the little unhappiness about waiting so long to initate a meet up or whatever evaporated into thin air the moment we met. And all the laughters and nonsense starts flooding back. It seem like 2003 all over again except that we have all added afew digits to our age. And like old times, Von never fails to amuse us, be it initiating stupid facial actions or coming up with stupid answers like "Angel City" to questions such as "What is the capital of Angels". (The correct answer is Los Angeles) We spent a good estimated 3 hours in Settlers playing games before heading to coffee bean nearby to engage in nonsensical stuffs like cam whoring. It should be 1 am when we headed home to put a close to the night. I managed to get home in time to see England smash 3 second half goals past Kahzakstan to complete a simple and very satisfying Saturday.
We didn't play this for 3 hrs, just that during this game we had opporunities to snap photos
Very well defined!
I found the perfect tool for self-timer mode - only for the amused waitress to take it away after 20mins!
This is ROFL
I really like Jean's shoes! If only I was a girl or I have a GF.
Technology have never cease to surprise me. I thought some of these photos look rather unique, and I certainly have no idea I would look great. Was it me? Or was it technology? Either way, it's just for the thrills.
There are few moments in life as wonderful as that of having a car, a full tank of gas, a map of the entire continent spread out in front of you and the most gorgeous woman in your back seat. You would feel there isn't a place on the planet you wouldn't be able to go. Borders? What borders would there be? They will be nothing but checkpoints to remind you that you've reached a new stage in your adventure. Unfortunately for me, these checkpoints seem to be nothing but a forlorn conclusion.
In life, I tend to wait for the good things to come. And by waiting, I miss out. Usually, what I wish for doesn't falls into my arms, nor does it falls in front of me just for me to pick it up. It falls somewhere nearby, and I have to recognize it, stand up, and put in the time and effort it requires to get to it. I used to have the idea that heaven is unfair and cruel; not anymore. Heaven is smart, he knows that the things which falls into our arms, are the ones we wouldn't appreciate. I am like a man stranded in a drought and just when I had my hopes up as the skies turned dark and gloomy, a slow drizzle came instead of the thunderstorm I desired. I would have to make a decison. I would have to pick up my bucket and work to catch each drop as it falls from the skies.
Many times, my failures in life were the results of confusions getting the better of me. Each time I ask myself whether I should or shouldn't, I would often end up making the wrong choice. And so I decided that it is a time for a change, afterall if I keep doing the same things, I will keep getting the same results. If I think I could have, then I could have. As soon as I asked myself whether I should or shouldn't, it means I should. I am great believer of fate but I also believe that man can overcome destiny sometimes. Just that he needs to understand the obstacles better, and find a solution for each of time. In a war, if you are going against 2 allied armies, you could fight both of them single-handedly where he chances of winning is not as great as when u study the objectives of your enemies. They might be allies but they could be joining forces because of different reasons. Hence if you know your enemy, you will be able to use different solutions on each of them and instead of fighting 2 armies you could end up fighing just one. It is the same in life, find our your enemies, understand them and then work out what you need to do to subdue them. I think I have found out mine.
I was never one who could talk all day long directly and openly about the more private side of my life and I still is. It is not surprising then, that people often theme me as a wierdo or discreet person who is simply un-understandable. Everyone has secrets and a private and that safe is one which is entitled only to people worthly of unlocking it.
38 days. It felt like I was never away for that duration in the first place. I haven't missed blogging a single bit during the time I was away. It felt like a rest I have long warrented. The timing of my laptop's death couldn't have come at a better time. I still haven't got my new laptop yet which is quite annoying and bothersome, but I felt I needed to blog about such a historic and memorable event - The first ever F1 night race held in Singapore.
I've been an avid fan of F1 for the last 2 years and so when they announce last year that we would be hosting the first ever night race in 2008 I couldn't contain my delight. That delight would soon turn into a series of moans when the ticket prices were released. $168 being the cheapest 3 day pass and that does not provide u a seat at a grandstand. The most expensive was the mind blogging $6500 ones but I figure out a $1399 one would be great enough. The problem was that the tickets were released in Febuary this year and the race only took place in September. A mad rush for the tickets, especially the cheaper ones ensured the moment they were on sale. The only F1 friend I could think of didn't wanted to go so I just gave up the idea. It seem at that point of time that watching my first ever F1 race live would have to wait at least another year. That was until Friday.
I woke up with a swollen left eye on Friday morning and with it being a Friday I decided that seeing a doctor doesn't hurt. There was another thing on my mind - F1. Friday was the first day, the practice sessions. But I shrugged it off and got myself ready to see the doctor. Then, as if heaven had the script written for that day, it rained. A morning thunderstorm at 8am. Without a choice, I had to delay the visit to the doctor. I started surfing some classified sites like ebay and came across a number of people placing their F1 tickets for sale. Like a heorin addict who haven't had a jab for a couple of hours, I started an intensive search for a suitable package in terms of price & types of seats. I wasn' even aware that I wasn't supposed to go and I had nobody to go with. That would wait though as I soon chanced upon a great offer of $1100 for a pair of grandstand tickets. There were other options as well and for the next 1 hour or so my phone buzzed non stop with all kinds of offers and trading activities. While negotiating with various people, I started thinking of who I wanted to invite. Finally I settled on Denise for the practice session with me and Jos watching the qualifying and race with me. It was quite a chaotic last minute decision and with the exception of Friday, I was always sure who I wanted to watch the race with. Initially we had only decided on the qualifying on Saturday before she changed her mind saying it's wierd to watch the qualifying without watching the race - muc to my delight and relief.
I could write all day long about everything that took place through the 3 days so to summarize it up, it was simply a magnificent and memorable experience. The kind that I could relate to my grand children and the kind whereby in a decade's time people will still be talking about it. And me? I could proudly say: "yes I was there, I was there when it took place and I was there when Nelson Piquet crashed his Renault."
The whole event obviously cost alot of money, and to most people it's simply insane paying over a thousand to watch cars but to me it was worth every single penny of it. I must have spent something close to $1400 for everything (tickets, transport, meals, souvenirs, etc) over 3 days but there's no regrets it was an experience of a lifetime.
The only general unhappiness was $10 for a plate of cai tao kuay (carrot cake) and it took 30 mins to cook, almost got me late for my race! Oh red bull cost $4 a can too!
